A Hen Do To Remember: Mother Hens by Sophie McCartney
Sophie McCartney’s debut fictional novel, “Mother Hens,” follows the story of four friends – Cara Carmichael, her best friend, and two others – as they set off on a hen do to Ibiza. Excited to leave behind their responsibilities and enjoy a long weekend of sun, sea, and relaxation, the friends soon find themselves in trouble on the party island where anything goes.
Cara sees the trip as an opportunity to escape her messy divorce and huge family drama. Even on holiday though, she finds that her past catches up with her, there really is no escape!
“When a twist of fate causes feathers to fly – a dangerous opportunity for retribution arises. Faced with secrets, lies and betrayal, does it pay to be a good egg, or do bad chicks reign supreme?”
Mother Hens takes readers on a wild ride, from Ibiza to Vegas and back to good old Cheshire. The book is filled with laughter, surprise and thought provoking moments and will leave you wondering what any of us are truly capable of when pushed to our limits.
Mother Hens Book Review
I giggled away as I made my way through the book and found it hard to put it down. Sophie has written the book in such a way, that you can almost visualise yourself in the characters positions. Cringing when they do, feeling the relief and most importantly, laughing!
You would assume a mums trip to Ibiza for a hen party wouldn’t be that raucous. However, Cara and her friends manage to make it a memory laden trip they will never forget, for good reasons and bad. It certainly made me remember my crazy time on the White Isle. Fortunately there was a little less drama on my holiday!
The book flows really well and I love how you get an insight into what Cara is thinking and what she would actually like to do. While it is an easy read, there are enough twists to keep you wanting more until the end of the book. The ending totally ties the story up perfectly and readers will be happy. The final two chapters will absolutely floor you though. You seriously do not see that particular drama coming and is a great treat for readers!
This is a great book to keep you entertained over the summer, whether you are lucky enough to head to Ibiza or not!
